After starring in Shondha Rhimes’ political TV series Scandal on ABC network for seven seasons as a ‘fixer’ – and as the first woman to star in a network show in the lead in 50 years – Kerry Washington signed on to star in a Hulu series based on a book – in association with Reese Witherspoon.
But since Scandal, she has gone on to star in a Broadway play called American Son that has gained so much acclaim that it has been converted into a Netflix television event.
Steven Pasquale and Kerry Washington essay two parents who are looking for their missing son, who is biracial. Said to be a commentary on identity, and loss, the TV movie – adapted from the play – made its debut at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) earlier this year.
In the series, the parents – no longer together – reunited as their teenage son goes missing in South Florida. Written by Christopher Demos-Brown, Kerry Washington plays Kendra Ellis-Connor who is stunning in the trailer. She is also one of the executive producers under her Simpson Street Company.
