Saqib Malik talks to Instep about developing Baaji’s unique sense of style…

“The biggest challenge was that we wanted to reinvent Meera; she has been working for so long and people haven’t seen her in a long time. Meera’s character in the film is larger than life – she is playing a movie star – so we really wanted to present her like a Hollywood star. We took out templates of Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe and all the great Hollywood actresses.”

Saqib Malik’s Baaji, which releases on June 28, is a film that tags many landmarks, one of them being the high style quotient, evident in the way various looks for the film have been developed. Not only does comeback film star Meera look her ultimate gorgeous self, we see glitz and glamour permeate the main cast as well as every frame of the film.

“Baaji has been an amazing style journey for me because the film is all about the film world and the world of glamour so we really wanted each character to have their style,” says Saqib Malik. “So Anila [Murtaza], my style director, and I sat very closely together and discussed all the characters in great deal.

We came up with storyboards for all of them and shared them with respective designers. The film has a unique style identity.”
