Pakistani short, Rani, screened at Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival

Short film Rani, which had its Pakistan premiere in March at the 10th edition of Karachi Literature Festival and stars transgender model and activist Kami Sid, is making waves again.

Produced by GrayScale and Rizvilia Productions, Rani was screened on Tuesday (May 7) alongside a host of other great short films at the 35th edition of Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival LAAPFF that kick-started from May 2 and will run till May 10, 2019 [today].

The news was revealed on Grayscale Production’s official Facebook handle.

Established in 1983 by Visual Communications, the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival is the largest film festival in Southern California. It is dedicated to showcasing films by and about Asians and Pacific Islanders around the world. The Festival presents approximately 150 films and media-works that celebrate Asian Pacific filmmakers and stories.

Moreover, LAAPFF is a proud Academy Award-qualifying film festival for Short Film Awards.

Coming back to the short film, Rani is written and directed by Hammad Rizvi and produced by Akbar Allana and Sara Siddiqi. Shot on the streets of Karachi, it highlights the plight of a Pakistani transgender woman who decides to become a parent after finding an abandoned infant. In the short film, Kami Sid essays the role of a toy vendor, whose decision to bring up the child unfolds some harsh realities that she has to come to terms with. In addition to Kami Sid, the film also features Maaz Khan and Hina Pathani in prominent roles.
