The somewhat controversial biopic, The Accidental Prime Minister, which features Anupum Kher as the former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, as well as Akshaye Khanna in a key role, is all set to release in Pakistan after it was cleared from the Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC). Directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte’s and written by Mayank Tewari, the biopic is based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Sanjaya Baru, who is Manmohan Singh’s former media advisor.

According to Danyal Gillani, Chairman of the Central Board of Film Censors, the film has been approved for screening with minor cuts. After the clearance, producer Jayantilal Gada of PEN Studios issued a statement, as reported by Indian Express.

“PEN Studios is happy to announce that our one-of-a-kind political film, The Accidental Prime Minister, has got a green signal from our neighboring country, Pakistan,” read the statement.

“Pakistani moviegoers will be able to enjoy the film as it is set to release there. I always admired Imran Khan as a brave cricketer, and now I respect him as a Prime Minister, too. I’m also thankful to Pakistan’s Censor Board Chairman for approving our film.”

The biopic that released in India on January 11 will hit cinemas in Pakistan on January 18 and delves into former PM Manmohan Singh’s tenure – he completed two terms in the office, from 2004 - 2014.

Though The Accidental Prime Minister has gotten mixed reviews in India due to protests against the film for damaging the image of PM Singh and his press advisor Sanjaya Baru, let’s see how it fares at the Pakistani box office.
