Ahsan Bari, the force behind music group Sounds of Kolachi, could very well be having the biggest year of his career. Having parted ways from Pepsi Battle of the Bands last year, Ahsan is all psyched for the release of an upcoming Cornetto Pop Rock song starring Ali Azmat, Khumariyaan, Abid ‘Sibbi Song’ Brohi and a fourth group called Nafs. It could redeem Cornetto from its lackluster earlier releases.

As reported by Instep earlier, Ahsan has co-composed the song with Ali Azmat and co-produced it alongside Faisal Rafi.

Speaking to Instep about the track that is tentatively scheduled to appear this month, Ahsan noted that while the song has an inspirational feel, it won’t be a hotchpotch song with the polls apart sounds of Khumariyaan, Ali Azmat, Abid Brohi and Nafs clashing but rather a showcase of colour of sounds. He also told Instep that the recording of the song is not laced with virtual instruments. For instance, drums featured on the much-awaited song have been recorded live.

Ahsan Bari, who co-curated The South Asia Ensemble with Salt Arts in 2016 and has done scores of live music performances under this musical guise, is also all set to take the stage as South Asia Ensemble alongside Rahat Ali, Abdul Aziz Kazi, Shahid Rahman and Saif Abbas Rizwan later this month (August 25).

“The upcoming show,” said Ahsan, “is getting away from only traditional. It is still fusion but elements of minimalism will exist. It is a newer, modern version of the ensemble, which means more improvisation and experimentation in the playlist.”

Ahsan told Instep that The South Asia Ensemble has helped him find “my own sound” and while fans can expect reinterpretation of A.R. Rahman songs, this event will be an audio-visual experience that will elevate the series further.
