Having had countless modeling assignments and music videos to her credit, Rabia Butt made her transition from being a model to actor in 2016 with Farouq Mengal’s Hijrat, which served as her debut film.
She has now joined the cast of the much-anticipated period drama Aangan that is based on the pre-partition era.Rabia Butt has a special appearance in the upcoming play and will be essaying the character of a Hindu widow.
Speaking about her character, Rabia said in a recent interview: “All the characters in the play are interconnected, except for mine. But it’s a strong character with a lot of layers that adds value to the play.”
She added: “In fact, it’s one I feel strongly about and can also relate with. Kusum is a Hindu widow who is rebelling against the norms of society. During days when Hindu widows were made to chop their hair off, you see her with beautiful long hair.”
Directed by Mohammad Ehteshamuddin of Udaari fame, the upcoming play has an all-star cast that includes Ahsan Khan, Ahad Raza Mir, Sajal Aly, Mawra Hocane, Sonya Hussyn, Uzma Hassan, Abid Ali and Hira Mani - apart from Rabia Butt.
Aangan is an adaptation of Khatija Mastoor’s award winning novel of the same name, which was honoured with the Adamjee Award for Literature and translated in 13 languages. The period drama is scheduled to go on air later this year.
