According to a new theory, Avengers will cease to exist as we know them after a time travel aberration.

The trailer of Avengers: Infinity War has set a new record. It is the most watched trailer on YouTube in a 24 hour period with 230 million views and counting.

As the days go by, a lot of rumours are circling about Infinity War (and its second part) and whether the film will lead to the end of The Avengers team as we know it. Marvel has a habit of keeping its superheroes alive and that trope is not going to work this time around and they know it too.

Fortunately for us, as comic book fans breakdown the many clues that make up the trailer, here’s what you can expect. There are multiple stories that suggest that Robert Downey. Jr, the most recognizable face in Marvel Cinematic Universe will be saying goodbye. It is for this very reason that Benedict Cumberbatch was cast as Doctor Strange in the first place.

An all-encompassing theory, presented by one Reddit user, states that Avengers will cease to exist after a massive time travel aberration.

“In some point at Infinity War or Avengers 4, the Avengers realise they cannot beat Thanos no other way than using the Infinity Stones, especially the Time Gem, and changing the history by stopping certain things from happening in the past, including erasing the characters,” goes the theory.

The theory goes on to say that while newer characters like Spider-Man, Ant-Man will survive, the original founders of the Avengers initiative will be erased.

“Through this time changing process, Thanos for some reason does not seek the Infinity Stones nor destroy the Earth. Only (relatively) new characters like Ant-Man, Spiderman, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Guardians remain but old characters will be gone.

In this revised timeline, Tony Stark does not go to Afghanistan, so there’s no Iron Man and continue to live his life as a mass weapon manufacturer (or he did visit Afghanistan but gets killed by the shrapnel).

Steve Rogers does not go to the recruiting office, so there’s no Captain America and he stays in 1940s, finishing his life in his era Steve missed so much as some weak kid from Brooklyn.

Natasha [Black Widow] does not get drafted by KGB. Thor does not get exiled to Earth. Bruce Banner does not try to recreate Super Soldier Serum.

Maximoff twins do not get tested by Hydra. Both Tony and Steve, and other Avengers choose this themselves as the only way to ‘defeat’ Thanos, despite knowing that their existences will be gone.”
