Having made a successful debut last year, Focus Pakistan, an all-encompassing conference dedicated to the business of entertainment and its many shapes including creative and technical, is gearing up to return for a second run.

While the conference, which counts Atiqa Odho as its founder and chairperson, is scheduled to take place on November 25 onwards, the full list of speakers and sessions has yet to be unveiled. We do, however, know that its 2017 ambassadors include Omair Rana (as the face of television), Sohail Hashmi (voice of radio), Sarmad Sultan Khoosat (face of film), Zain Ahmed (face of theatre) and Humayun Gauhar (face of print). The second edition will also honour industry stalwarts such as Imran Aslam, Samina Peerzada, Bushra Ansari and Shoaib Mansoor. It also includes ‘the film market’, a short-film festival that is meant to highlight upcoming talent. It is curated by a jury of industry experts such as Jami, Nabeel Qureshi, Asim Raza, Wajahat Rauf, Nadeem Baig, Marina Khan, Mehreen Jabbar and Angeline Malik.

Given the growth of cinema and the evolution we find ourselves in the midst of, at least when it comes to cinema, a conference like this will go a long way in bringing various industry experts in one place. It is high time we address just how entertainment can shape minds and maybe change them for the better.
