It is heartening to see celebrities coming forward and playing their part in matters that go beyond their profession.

It is heartening to see celebrities coming forward and playing their part in matters that go beyond their profession. Their contribution to the betterment of society has lasting influence given their huge fan following. We’ve seen it time and again and it is good to see the altruistic side of stars emerge once more.

A case in point is the new Coke commercial which stars Mahira Khan, Maya Ali, Mikaal Zulfiqar and veteran actor Nadeem Baig, as they take the legacy of Abdul Sattar Edhi forward.

Philanthropist and humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi, the man behind the Edhi Foundation that runs hospitals, homeless shelters and orphanages across Pakistan, passed away in July of last year. His son, Faisal Edhi, has revealed that there has been a considerable decrease in the amount of charity donated to the foundation in the aftermath of his death.

Hence, the commercial which is meant to remind us that though the great man is gone, his mission even in death is one and the same.

Back to the commercial, the artists mentioned above request the audience to donate for homeless children, senior citizens and above all for Edhi, who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.

“Fill in the Coca Cola ‘Bottle of Change’ with as much money as you can,” the ad says. Coca Cola will double all the donations and forward it to the foundation.  Here’s hoping that the presence of stars will propel others to donate generously.
