With the emergence of more than a few entertainment channels, all looking to capture a huge chunk of the market share, TV dramas are not only creating new stars but also allowing the music industry a chance to showcase its flavour. It’s no longer just films that are roping in artists like Zeb Bangash and Jimmy Khan as soundtracks try and rise from under the burden of clichés and mediocrity.

Though there are dozens of TV dramas on-air, we will only focus on the soundtracks that have emerged victorious in a sea of mediocrity.  A case in point:  Ali Azmat’s rendition of the Rasm-e-Duniya OST. Full of emotion, it is not only a moving performance but a sign that Azmat can sing and breathe life into soundtracks with as much ease as he does with his own creations.

With Sabir Zafar penning the lyrics and master of TV soundtracks Waqar Ali composing the tune, this track is not only superior to other efforts done in the same genre but also several film soundtracks that have appeared on the horizon these past few months. Languid and melancholic, it is a remarkable display of musicianship and a song that gives Azmat room to really shine. Having sung the iconic Aansoo OST, Azmat returns to the genre in great style. And so, as we wait on the second season of Cornetto Pop Rock, which will feature Ali Azmat among others, this song should gratify loyal listeners for the time being.
