Main opposition party leader in India, P Chidambaram has stressed on dialogue with Pakistan to avoid war and any additional conflicts.
Speaking in the Indian city of Chennai, the Congress party leader stated that he firmly believes that war does not solve any problem and dialogue with Pakistan is the only option.
“Plebiscite was offered under very different conditions, please understand that,” he stated.
“So it is very complicated dealing with Pakistan… but as Vajpayeeji once said and [former prime minister] Dr Manmohan Singh repeated, Pakistan is our neighbour, we can change our friends, we cannot change our neighbours,” added further.
The former union minister went on to stress that India has to live with Pakistan for an eternity, therefore, “Ultimately, we have to talk to Pakistan…you may get nothing out it, you may call me a pacifist, I am firmly of the view that war does not solve any problems.”
