Meesha Shafi's lawyer claims she has proof to support allegations
KARACHI: Meesha Shafi’s counsel Barrister Ahmad Pansota has come forward claiming the singer has evidence to back up her allegations against Ali Zafar.
Talking to Geo News, the barrister said: "She has proof of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar," while elaborating that the allegations are under thorough examination as of now and the legal course that will be taken up by the accused would decide the course of action.
He further added that Shafi would not have leveled any accusations if she was not in possession of evidence that support her statements.
The lawyer said that the matter will be evaluated from all aspects by the legal team.
Earlier in the day, Shafi announced that she has engaged prominent lawyers Nighat Dad and Muhammad Ahmad Pansota as legal advisors to ‘look after all issues pertaining to sexual harassment claim against Ali Zafar’.
‘Media is requested to contact them to get any update on the ongoing issue,’ she added.
Last week, singer and actress Shafi alleged Zafar sexually harassed her on more than one occasion. The singer took to Twitter to speak up about her experience stating “my conscience does not allow me to be silent anymore.”
This is the first incident of a Pakistani celebrity alleging a colleague harassed her.
In her statement posted on Twitter, the singer-cum-actor wrote, "As a woman, a public figure and a mother, I have always felt strongly about using my voice to encourage and support our youth who look up to me especially girls, who dream of carving their own path in Pakistan."
However, Ali Zafar in his response categorically denied "any and all claims of harassment” lodged against him and stated to take the matter to court.
