PCB foils Indian, Bangladeshi bid to scandalize PSL 2018

SHARJAH: Firm measures taken by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), have made attempts by international fixing networks targeting the Pakistan Super League (PSL) players, ineffective.

In  a report from Sharjah, Jang reporter  Abdul Majid Bhatti stated that another attempt of spot fixing was made during the third edition of PSL through the help of social media platforms, Whatsapp and Facetime.

As a deterrent measure, players were shown pictures of one of the bookies and were firmly directed to avoid all interactions with him and to report instantaneously if he is spotted anywhere near the hotel.

The two bookies have also been blacklisted in the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit.

The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit along with Britain’s National Crime Agency have gathered corroboration concerning the issue.

Investigators of the PCB, with the help of intelligence agencies have identified the two fixers as Bangladeshi and Indian nationals.

The bookies have allegedly contacted players of at least three teams, on social media applications WhatsApp and FaceTime, but the incident was immediately reported by players to the authorities.

Credible sources have affirmed that evidences of both the bookies, being present in Dubai, have been found, however they are still away from the parameters of the hotels in which the players are staying.

Earlier this year, PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit had also taken stern measures against Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Lateef imposing a five years ban on them for spot fixing.

Besides, Mohammad Irfan, Shahzeb Hasan and Nasir Jamshed were also imposed huge fines and punishments.

Due to the past unpleasant experiences, the head of the PCB has been notified of the incident which has led the Anti-Corruption to take rigorous actions.
