Pete Davidson says a worried FaceTime call from his mom finally got him to enter rehab after a long struggle with addiction.

The 32-year-old comedian touched upon the topic of his prior drug use in a recent interview, recalling how bad things got as he was "cooking" liquid ketamine and also using acid, mushrooms and whippets, smoking weed all day and taking pills daily.

“It was K. I was getting liquid and cooking it. And I would do acid and shrooms and whippets and smoke weed all day and eat pills every day,” he described in an interview with Variety published Wednesday.

He further explained, “It got scary because I didn’t feel high. I felt high when I wasn’t doing it, so I was like, this is a huge problem.”

Davidson hit bottom in the summer of 2023. His show Bupkis, in which he plays himself, had just come out, and it had been a year since he left Saturday Night Live.

With little structure in his life, he said, reliving the darkest moments of his past for the show was traumatic, so he turned to drugs to numb the pain.

The turning point came when his mom, Amy, told him her biggest fear was seeing bad news about him on TV.

“She told me her biggest fear was waking up one day to see on the news that something bad had happened to me,” Davidson, 32, recalled. “I reached a point where I couldn’t do that to her anymore.”

He checked into rehab and quit Bupkis, even though Peacock had renewed it for a second season. He said he felt he was feeding the invasive attention on his personal life.

“I was part of the problem of what I hated the most, which was the invasiveness around my personal life. I was just lobbing it up and continuing the narrative,” Davidson admitted.

He had been to rehab before, but this time he took it seriously. "You really have to want it, and when you're done, you're done," he said.

Davidson says he is sober now, apart from about "four beers a year." He's been off hard drugs for two or three years and off weed for a year or more, which he called the hardest to quit. Becoming a father made it "easy," he said.

He welcomed his daughter, Scottie, with ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt in December 2025, shortly before they split in May 2026.
