Why 'Adolescence' star almost quit acting?

Stephen Graham, famed for his work in This Is England, opened up about the darkest time in his career.

The 53-year-old actor revealed that his acting career took an unexpected turn after his 2006 film and he ended up getting no offers for almost a year.

Grahan shared that after nine months of zero work, he briefly walked away from the entertainment industry and started working with differently-abled kids.

He told Sunday Times, "After This Is England I didn’t work for nine months and couldn’t get a job. I was going to pack it in to become a youth worker."

Despite being away from the showbiz business, he ended up getting roles in hit movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Public Enemies, and London Boulevard.

After the massive success of his Netflix movie, Adolescence, he is now in high demand.

Now, Graham is expressing gratitude for his acting career that led him to have a beautiful house for his wife and kids.

He shared, We’ve got a really nice house, a wonderful family, and I often find myself in moments of overwhelming gratitude because of how my life has turned out."

Graham even joked that his son thinks he is the only person on planet Earth who loves his job.

"Before I left this morning I was like: 'Have a good day at work, lad.'

"And Alfie says: 'Dad, no one really loves their job apart from you'."

He concluded, "I’m fortunate that I’ve been busy these past few years, but I’ve never been obsessed with my career."

It is pertinent to mention that Graham recently won Best Male Actor Award in the limited series category at the Golden Globes.
