Diana insisted Prince William and Harry knew Charles loved her, says expert

A veteran journalist has claimed that King Charles genuinely cared for his wife, Princess Diana, despite the fact that the pair were fundamentally mismatched.

Speaking to Hello! magazine, Ingrid Seward, who had personal and professional contact with the late princess, said Diana insisted that Princes William and Harry were under no illusion that their father, King Charles, loved her.

She said: "He was plagued by guilt because he knew he was the one who should have made it work. But her intense jealousy and many, many other things... they were just not suited at the time."

Her comments come three days after Diana’s brother Charles Spencer released his book on his sister.

Public's interest was piqued by incendiary allegations about her troubled marriage to ‌the now-king, including the claim he was "giddily elated" at her death.

Charles Spencer, who delivered a much-lauded eulogy at the 1997 funeral of his sister, has sparked global headlines with a book that accuses the then-Prince of Wales of sounding like a "lottery winner" in the hours after her death.

The book, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister", was released in Britain on Tuesday, where allegations contained ​in pre-released excerpts have dominated newspaper front pages for almost a week, helping send it straight to the top of the ​bestseller list on Amazon.
