King Charles vs Charles Spencer feud splits royal fans and media

A new feud between King Charles and Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, has divided royal family supporters and media figures.

The feud erupted after Spencer claimed in his new book that King Charles sounded "like a lottery winner" after the death of his late first wife Diana.

Spencer said the then-Prince Charles was "giddily elated" in the immediate ‌aftermath of Diana's death in 1997, possibly because he felt it meant he was freer to marry again, according to passages in the Daily Mail.

While a large number of people and royal experts have sided with King Charles, a considerable number have voiced support for Spencer.

Amid the debate over Spencer's new book on his late sister, a legendary TV presenter has claimed that Princess Diana's popularity with the British public is still 'deeply resented' inside Buckingham Palace.

Speaking to the BBC, David Dimbleby, 87, said Diana was a "prime example of someone who didn't act like the rest of the Royal Family".

"She was fresh, new and exciting to the public and they really adored her," he noted

"And that was deeply resented in the Palace. And still is."

He added: "This kind of tit-for-tat over who said what, and only two people know what was actually said, just reignites all that."

Dimbleby argued that the "real problem" with the monarch is their apprehension about "facing up to the biggest issues".

The TV icon also described the Royal Family as "a bit of a soap opera" and warned against becoming "trapped in this cycle of gossip".

He continued: "People are fascinated and I think whenever any tittle-tattle reaches the public domain, people sort of think about it in terms of their own families.

"They all have problems and then suddenly... this family that is set up on a pedestal of being leaders of the country - they have problems too."
