Diddy's $100M suit against Nexstar moves toward possible settlement

Sean "Diddy" Combs could get a big payout after Nexstar Media, the company behind NewsNation, started talking about possibly settling his $100 million lawsuit. 

A new court filing shows both sides are now thinking about mediation or a settlement meeting in front of a judge.

The lawsuit began after a 2024 TV segment on NewsNation's Banfield show. On the show, a guest named Courtney Burgess had claimed he had flash drives that once belonged to Combs' late partner, Kim Porter. He said the drives had videos of celebrities, including some he claimed were minors, at Combs' parties. Attorney Ariel Mitchell backed up his story on air. 

Combs says none of this is true and that Burgess never even knew Porter.

A different part of the same show became the one claim still allowed to move forward against Nexstar. In that segment, Mitchell suggested Combs may have used drug-laced baby oil to make someone weaker. 

However, a judge ruled that Combs gave enough evidence to argue the network aired this claim without good reason to believe it. Other parts of Combs' case against Nexstar, including claims about hidden cameras and a police report, were thrown out.

This ruling doesn't say Mitchell or Nexstar did anything wrong. It just means Combs can keep fighting that one specific claim. Now, both sides are asking for two weeks to decide if they want to try to settle instead of going to trial. So far, no money has been offered and no one has admitted fault.

Separately, Burgess never responded to the lawsuit, so the court already ruled against him by default. However, no money has been awarded yet.

Combs is currently serving a 50-month prison sentence. He's expected to be released on February 5, 2028.
