Where was Donald Trump on 9/11?

US President Donald Trump has claimed two firefighters carried him away from danger near Ground Zero after the September 11 attacks, but there is no public evidence confirming the account.

Speaking at a White House event honouring 9/11 first responders on Tuesday, Trump said he went to Ground Zero “right after this happened” with a group of his workers.

Trump claimed firefighters feared One Liberty Plaza, which he called the US Steel building, could collapse.

“They grabbed me under the arms, said, ‘Gotta get out of here.’ And they literally lifted me up,” Trump said.

However, Trump was at Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan, miles from the World Trade Center, when the attacks occurred, CNN reported.

In a 2016 version of the story, Trump said the alleged incident happened “a couple of days” later.

There is no public evidence Trump was inside One Liberty Plaza following the attacks or that he sent a crew to assist rescue efforts at Ground Zero.

The White House did not provide evidence when asked about Trump’s latest account.

“He was a private citizen at the time, not everything he did was documented,” the White House said.

One Liberty Plaza reopened in October 2001 and continues to operate today.
