Why did Madonna replace ‘Love Profusion’ director with Luc Besson?
Madonna called that director to direct 'Love Profusion' on short notice
Madonna has many hit tracks under her belt. Love of Profusion was one of them.
But for the music video of the 2003 song, the pop icon needed a skillful director.
And the initial filmmaker she got to direct the video, in her view, was subpar.
So what happened?
Director Luc Besson recalled that his phone rang, and Madonna was on the other end.
“Madonna called me up. ‘I have to make this video tomorrow, and the director sucks,' he said in a masterclass at the Venice Film Festival.
Given the importance of the work, too, on short notice, the French filmmaker remembered, "I listened to the song for 11 hours on the plane. I think we shot it the moment we landed, because she was in a hurry."
But apart from directing Madonna's music video, Besson has been knee-deep in working in the sci-fi genre.
From The Last Battle to The Fifth Element and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
Now, he is teasing; he is writing a new sci-fi film, and in his words, it is "crazy".
“It’s going to be crazy, believe me. Maybe you will need a ticket and an aspirin at the same time. I’m older, so I’m trying to explore everything now,” he said.
Venice Film Festival runs from Sept 2 to 12.
