King Charles, Queen Camilla pay tribute to 'great' Dolly Parton

King Charles and Queen Camilla have paid a touching tribute to ‘great’ Dolly Parton, who died on Tuesday.

The palace, on behalf of King Charles and Camilla, shared a footage of several Buckingham Palace's brass band performing a rendition of Parton's chart-topping anthem '9 to 5' outside of the royal residence.

They said, “Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many - including the millions of children given free books through her Imagination Library. We will always love you.”

US singer-songwriter, actress, businesswoman and philanthropist Dolly Parton died on Tuesday at the age of 80, her family said in a statement.

The prolific songwriter released 49 studio albums, more than 100 compilation and collorabative albums, won 10 Grammys and 13 Academy of Country Music awards, and racked up 26 number one country hits during her six decades in the American music scene.

According to AFP, at the height of her fame, she reached number one on the pop charts too, with songs like "Islands in the Stream", and starred in Hollywood blockbusters "9 to 5", for which she sang the insuppressible title track, and "Steel Magnolias".

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1946 in Sevierville, Tennessee, the fourth of 12 children who grew up dirt poor in the family's small shack in the Great Smoky Mountains.
