Richard E. Grant slams pals after wife Joan Washington's death

Richard E. Grant recently got candid and opened up about filtering out friends from his life following the death of his wife, Joan Washington.

For those unaware, the 69-year-old Swazi-English actor and presenter married Washington, a British dialect coach who trained many high-profile actors across film, television, and theatre, in 1986. The couple welcomed their only biological child together, daughter Olivia Grant, in 1989.

Washington, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020, died at the age of 74 at her residence in Avening, Gloucestershire, on September 2, 2021.

In his recent interview with The Sunday Times, Grant revealed that his friendship group became a lot smaller after his wife of 35 years passed away because he was left alone by his pals and was not provided the comfort he needed during the most difficult phase in his life.

He said, “I'm very unequivocal, black and white, all or nothing. I've tried to go for the grey areas but it's not succeeded for very long.”

“There are people that have been edited out of my life and I will never see them again. If I had done that to them, I wouldn't be able to look them in the face. People do everything to avoid talking about death,” the Game of Thrones star shared.

It is pertinent to mention that Richard E. Grant is still friends with Steve Martin, Martin Short, Helena Bonham Carter, Christine Baranski, and Sir Gary Oldman.
