Joanne Shaw Taylor reflects on 'bittersweet ache' in new song

Joanne Shaw Taylor reflected on his lost love ahead of his forthcoming album The Trouble with Love.

On August 21, 2026, the 40-year-old English singer and guitarist released a single track, The Girl That You Loved Before, from her upcoming album, The Trouble with Love.

In the song, Taylor reminisced about her past relationship, analyzing the complications she faced, the benefits she got, and the moment of a break-up, especially how people who once knew each other intimately have become strangers.

Articulating her thoughts, she said, “This song came from looking back at past relationships and realising how much we change over time. It’s about being remembered for who you were, not necessarily who you are now.”

“I wrote it to explore that nostalgia, that longing, and the bittersweet ache it brings,” the Summertime hitmaker revealed.

She discusses the idea at the centre of the song as she croons, “Who am I if I’m just a girl you loved before?”

It is pertinent to mention that Joanne Shaw Taylor, who continues her US touring schedule through September of this year, is all set to release her upcoming album The Trouble with Love on October 23, 2026.
