Dakota Johnson's remarks about financial struggles resurface after split from Role Model

Dakota Johnson has been trolled on social media after her past comments about how she struggled financially and she wasn’t able to buy even groceries have resurfaced online, sparking reactions from both fans and critics. 

In the resurfaced 2024 interview, Dakota Johnson said her dad cut off her allowance the moment she skipped college to pursue becoming an actress.

“I definitely had moments where I couldn’t afford groceries and things like that, and needed to ask my mom to help me. She was the nice one,” said the Materials actress.

Commenting on the video, an X user wrote sarcastically, “I couldn't afford groceries so I had to ask my Oscar-nominated mom for help" — absolute rock bottom guys, she really built herself from the ground up!”

Another wrote,” Are you really struggling Dakota when casting agents know you're the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith?”

A third said, “Why are all these rich and/or nepotism celebs talking about how poor they were while they went to private schools, had celeb parents, and raised with their last names opening every door?”

The video resurfaced after it was reported that Dakota Johnson and her boyfriend Role Model have gone their separate ways just a few months after they were first linked.

The Materialists actor and the Look at That Woman singer, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, ended their relationship "a while ago", People magazine reported.

The former couple were first spotted out and about together in December last year, and were subsequently seen on more dates at the start of this year.

The outlet cited a source who divulged that Johnson was "taking things slow" after her previous long-term relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, which ended in June 2025.

Johnson and Pillsbury collaborated on a track from his latest album, Chuck Timely & the Hourglass.

The actress is featured on the song Love I You, after she spontaneously dropped by the studio while he was recording it.
