Nick Reiner's legal costs mount as trust dispute continues

Nick Reiner has reportedly already spent around $200,000 in legal fees related to his ongoing murder case and a separate dispute over his family's trust fund.

Reiner, who is accused of killing his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, in December 2025, was not present at a recent court hearing focused on his request to access money from a family trust to help cover his legal expenses. 

His attorney argued that Reiner is entitled to funds that were already legally set aside for him years before his parents' deaths. The judge decided to push the hearing to a later date in October to allow more time to review the case.

Reiner, 32, remains in custody at a correctional facility in Los Angeles. Court documents show that he receives a small monthly stipend from the trust for basic expenses while incarcerated.

The trust dispute is separate from the ongoing criminal case. Reiner claims that a portion of the trust legally became his when he turned 30, arguing he never agreed to have that money withheld. 

Trust representatives dispute this, saying he had previously agreed to leave the funds in place.

Reiner's civil attorneys argue that the money in question is unrelated to his parents' deaths and should not be affected by laws that can prevent someone convicted of killing a relative from inheriting from them.

Reiner's defense attorney had previously stepped away from the case earlier this year due to funding issues but has continued advocating for his access to the trust. Reiner is currently represented in the criminal case by a public defender.

A grand jury indictment was recently unsealed, adding additional legal allegations to the case. 

Reiner has pleaded not guilty. He is scheduled to appear in court again in September for a pretrial hearing.
