Princess Diana's brother talks about a successful US trip days after Harry, Meghan Markle visit

Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer has talked about his trip to New York 40 years ago when he started his broadcasting career.

Taking to Instagram, Spencer shared a throwback photo with a ‘fine group of journalists’ and said, “The start of my broadcasting career - exactly 40 years ago this summer, when I took a month’s work at @nbcnews on @todayshow.”

He further said, “I was - to my huge relief and delight - offered a full time role by Steve Friedman, the executive producer, at a party to mark the end of that month of work in the UK.”

He also shared, “’Do you mean that?”, I asked.

“Sure”, he replied.

“I quickly found a napkin, and wrote out a very basic contract on it and asked him to sign it.”

Spencer went on saying, “6 weeks later I turned up in his office in Rockefeller Plaza, NYC, and produced the napkin. He laughed, honoured it, and we went from there.”

Over the next decade, he said, “I worked with most of this very fine group of journalists, around the world. A lot of hard work and hard laughter.”

“Quite a few of the people in this picture remain friends today. One sadly died on Sunday, which made me think about this era, and these colleagues.”

Charles Spencer shared about his past US trip days after Meghan and Harry, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, visited Althorp House, the family residence of late Princess Diana.
