Markwayne Mullin facing growing tensions with Trump White House, report says

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin is facing "growing tensions" with White House officials, according to a report by NBC News, which cited a senior Trump administration official and a senior DHS official.

According to the report, Mullin drew criticism after pausing US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle stops following fatal shootings in Texas and Maine.

The report said President Donald Trump later reversed the decision because it had not received White House approval.

An administration official told NBC News: “Every Cabinet secretary knows that they have to come to the White House for major policy decisions. The president sees, hears, reads everything.”

The report also said some administration officials were frustrated after Mullin made incorrect remarks during a CNN interview about a US Supreme Court ruling involving immigration protections.

It further reported that Mullin had raised concerns over the nomination of Lance Schroyer as ICE director, with one administration official saying: “Homan and others aren’t particularly thrilled with him.”

Responding to the report, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said the president and Mullin remain aligned on immigration policy.

“Secretary Mullin is working hard to implement the President’s immigration enforcement agenda. Secretary Mullin will continue to enforce federal immigration law as effectively as possible,” Jackson said.
