Elon Musk plans to make AI-generated ‘Odyssey’ movie by end of 2026
‘Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer, said Musk’
Elon Musk won over the public by announcing his plan to use artificial intelligence to create his own version of “The Odyssey” after his outspoken criticism of Christopher Nolan’s adaptation.
This significant move follows the $265 million global office debut of Christopher Nolan’s live-action “Odyssey”, triggering debate over AI challenging Hollywood.
As AI video generation technology expedites attempts at feature films with capital investments in xAI’s content creation tools are boosting Musk’s project even as conventional filmmaking experiences growing disruption.
On social platform X, Elon Musk posted: “Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey.”
This post sparked a wave of intriguing comments with user user writing, “Echoing another comment I made here: Imagine gets better with each passing day and it's super exciting to see. I was consistently blown away when putting this together at the awesome performances you can get out of an AI "actor".”
Second added, “This is nice but errs on the side of mediocrity. It's a normalized AI slope. It's like if AI attempted to write Foundation before there was a Foundation. It's safe. Boring. It lacks creativity and is stuck in the milieu of what was instead of having anything interesting to say. With a good screenwriter and director, it's possible to do the rest with AI. It would probably be much less frustrating to lean mostly on old fashioned methodologies and only supplement with AI.”
Despite the outrage from Musk and other conservative critics, Nolan’s adaptation of “The Odyssey: has been a resounding success, bringing in $264 million globally in its opening weekend.
Nonetheless, Musk’s motivation to create his own version of movie “The Odyssey” is hardly surprising, and all eyes are on how this project will develop.
