Why Trump wants the FBI to drop the Lindsey Graham death investigation
‘I know there’s all sorts of conspiracy theories going along, and I don’t think the FBI-I think the FBI is wasting their time if they’re doing that, said Trump’
President Trump has reportedly dismissed the FBI’s involvement in investigating the sudden death of his friend and ally, Sen. Lindsey Graham, and has pushed back against conspiracy theories surrounding the South Carolina Republican’s passing.
The president was rebutting allegations in the Oval Office when reporters asked him why FBI agents were at Graham’s home just blocks from the Capitol on Monday following the 71-year-old senator’s death.
In this connection, Trump said: “I don’t see a lot of evil there, I know there’s all sorts of conspiracy theories going along, and I think the FBI is wasting their time if they’re doing that.”
According to Washington’s chief medical examiner, a preliminary investigation of Graham found “aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease”.
Currently, authorities are awaiting the findings of toxicology and other tests.
The president said he had analyzed all of the medical documentation of all the medical reports related to Graham’s death and even received a rundown from his White House doctors about what had happened.
Trump noted that Graham’s father had died of heart complications at a relatively young age.
“They say it’s almost undetectable. You can detect it if you have a very bad back. That’s a sign. It’s a bad sign,” So, if anybody has a bad back ... that’s one of the primary signs. And he would tell me he had a bad back, but little did anyone realize it was for that. So, when that bursts, which it did, it bursts.” Trump said.
Trump was also asked about the speculation growing about Graham and whether Russia could have targeted him, as reported on Monday night on Newsmax.
A steadfast proponent of both Ukraine and Israel, Graham had been advocating for stricter penalties against President Vladimir Putin’s regime and Moscow and had just met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Lviv the day before his passing.
“Just to answer the conspiracy theory, I’d love to say yes, but I think he had some problems,” Trump told Newsmax.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced that his agency is supporting local authorities in this matter.
In contrast, two enforcement sources close to the investigation on Monday said federal agents are continuing to closely monitor Graham’s death with extreme caution.
At present, no new evidence has arisen since Saturday to indicate any foul play. On Tuesday, Trump said an aortic dissection is very hard to detect and that he had White House doctors explain the diagnosis to him.
Additionally, he said, “When that bursts, which it did, there's not much, so I don’t see a lot of evil there.”
