Portugal won 2-1 FIFA in the round-of-32 clash with Croatia
Cristiano Ronaldo has finally responded to his retirement buzz sparked by the Portuguese star’s sister’s shocking claims regarding his future.
Speaking to the Portuguese media ahead of the round-of-32 clash with Croatia, the sister Katia Aveiro claimed that her brother will end his much celebrated career with the national team in North America.
When asked if Ronaldo’s career would continue at Euro 2028, she said, "From the information that I have, you can start to say goodbye, because I believe this is it - so, enjoy it while you can.”
“I don't think he'll retire today, but it will be soon. I truly believe this is the farewell, so enjoy it a lot because...I'm talking about the Portuguese national team. The information I have, from a reliable source, I believe it's a last dance. So, let's enjoy it.”
The retirement claims took the internet by storm. In the midst of growing buzz, Ronaldo responded to the speculations.
Ronaldo revealed his future plans, stating "it is not important now," while adding, “I will have time to talk about it after winning or losing the championship; I will talk to my family and then I will make the most appropriate decision.”
“I no longer make decisions in the heat of the moment; now everything is done calmly. All that matters to me at the moment is enjoying the present and helping the national team,” he added as reported by Goal.
The remarks come after Portugal won their 2-1 FIFA World Cup victory over Croatia in Toronto on Thursday.
