Olivia Wilde reflects on intense scrutiny during Harry Styles relationship: Watch

Olivia Wilde is looking back on the criticism she once faced during her relationship with Harry Styles.

Wilde, 42, opened up on the matter during a recent appearance on Call Her Daddy podcast, where she said many people reacted negatively to their romance.

"People were f****** pissed," she began, speculating that some of the backlash came from the connection many fans feel with Styles.

“I think that it also had a lot to do with the kind of parasocial relationship people had with, have with him, which is a burden that is very weighty and not something I envy and he carries it with grace. I think that is an enormous responsibility that all those stars have to carry that's f****** impossible.”

She said being a global star brings a lot of pressure and attention, and she admired how Styles handled it.

The actress also discussed the couple's 10-year age gap. “Oh, man. I don't know. It really did upset people, though,” she said. “It was crazy. I don't know how much I understand it yet. That's one of the factors that I never really felt like, I fully, I don't know.”

However, Wilde admitted the criticism surprised her. Despite the public reaction, Wilde described her relationship with Styles as happy, peaceful and private.

“I think that we existed in this, like, little bubble and the judgment never really got into that bubble, which was a miracle and testament to us making that happen,” she added.

She also claimed that people seemed unhappy simply because she was happy.

“I think that people were mad,” she said. “It's almost like the happiness made them mad. I would go to shows and dance, and people were like, ‘Oh, bitch. You s***.' Oh, man. I don't know. It really did upset people, though.”

The actress recalled receiving criticism even when she attended Styles' concerts and danced in the crowd.

Wilde also spoke about her split from former fiancé Jason Sudeikis, with whom she had split months before the news became public.

Wilde pointed out that Sudeikis later dated Keeley Hazell, who is 11 years younger than him, but she felt that relationship received far less public criticism.
