Google marked the start of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 with a vibrant doodle on June 12, featuring cricket stumps, bails and a ball ahead of the tournament's opening ceremony in Birmingham, England.
This doodle, according to Google's description, is inspired by the "energy of T20" and consists of cricket equipment that competing teams are required to have for the entire tournament.
It can be seen in certain countries, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Holland, Ireland, and some islands of the Caribbean, namely Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, and Antigua and Barbuda.
ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 opening match details
The tournament's opening fixture pits hosts England against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham on June 12. The match kicks off at 6:30pm local time, 5:30pm GMT, 10:30am PT, and 1:30pm ET.
The opening ceremony will include a performance from the cast of the West End musical Wicked, marking the show's 20th anniversary in London, with Emma Kingston and Zizi Strallen, who play Elphaba and Glinda, leading the act.
Before the ceremony started, there was a "Captains' Carnival" held on the Waterloo Bridge in London where the captains of the 12 participating countries assembled.
There are twelve teams that are divided into two groups of six, whereby each team plays against five other teams in the same group once. The best two from each of these groups qualify for the semi-final stage.
