Emilia Clarke breaks silence on her Broadway dream
Emilia Clarke made her Broadway debut in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' in 2013
Emilia Clarke, famous for portraying Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, is counting down the days until her return to Broadway.
On Friday, June 5, the 39-year-old English actress’ movie Next Life premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, which is a science fiction romantic drama film written and directed by Drake Doremus. In addition to her, the ensemble cast includes Édgar Ramírez, Adil Akram, Laura Guest, Jack Farthing, Molly Gromadzki, and others.
At the event, PEOPLE magazine asked Clarke about her return to Broadway and the particular role she wants to play.
Responding to the question, she said, “I would love to, I would absolutely love to. I have this dream about doing Sweet Charity. That's pretty much it. Or any Fosse musical.”
For those unaware, the star of Last Christmas made her Broadway debut in Breakfast at Tiffany's in 2013.
It is pertinent to mention that Clarke’s dream show Sweet Charity, from Dorothy Fields, Neil Simon, and Cy Coleman, premiered on Broadway in 1966, which Bob Fosse directed and choreographed.
Notably, its big-screen version came out in 1969 and catapulted to huge success, starring Shirley MacLaine to play the lead role of hopeless romantic Charity Hope Valentine.
Broadway revived Sweet Charity in 2005 and cast Christine Applegate to portray the protagonist.
