Sydney Sweeney takes bold stance against original 'Euphoria' boss plan to cut nudity
Sam Levinson says he was initially planned to shoot Sydney Sweeney scenes sans nudity
There is an uproar over Euphoria's over-sexualization of Sydney Sweeney, who plays an adult content creator.
However, in a surprising revelation, creator Sam Levinson said the actress was against cutting nude scenes.
In an interview with The New York Times, Levinson said he was initially planning to shoot Sweeney scenes sans nudity.
"Well, it’s funny. When I first wrote it, I was like, ‘Maybe we shoot all of this, and we don’t have any nudity.'"
"Maybe there are ways to shoot around certain things?" he said.
But Sweeney instantly shut down the idea of not adding mature content.
In recalling her words, Levinson said, "And she looked at me and she was like, ‘Are you kidding? I’m playing an OnlyFans model."
"You’re telling me you’re going to, like, skirt around it?’"
The showrunner said he realized the point Sweeney had.
"And I was like, ‘Yeah, OK, that’s a fair point,” the creator added.
'Sydney Sweeney is fearless'
Levinson, meanwhile, also raved about Sweeney, describing her as "fearless."
Further praising the actress, the showrunner said she skillfully portrayed an OnlyFans creator.
“There’s a lot of trust that we have. And look, we’re tackling this world of OnlyFans where women are being paid to, like, whisper into an ear-shaped microphone."
"There is a level of absurdity to it that is just fun and we’re always trying to come up with ways to make it feel authentic and humorous and dramatic and also speak to the larger wants and wishes of the character.”
Euphoria, ultimately, has ended with season 3, which was released earlier on HBO Max.
