Kylie Minogue reveals why she stayed silent about her cancer relapse
The 'Spinning Around' singer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and relapsed in 2021
Kylie Minogue is opening up about why she kept the news of her second cancer diagnosis to herself in the Netflix documentary, Kylie.
The popstar, who first fought breast cancer in 2005, thought cancer was completely "removed" from her body during her first treatment, but when it relapsed in 2021, she was filled with fear about her future.
The Grammy winner said in a trailer video of the three-part series, “I was so scared of what was ahead of me."
And why she wanted to keep the second wave of health scare private, she explained, "My second cancer diagnosis was in early 2021. I was able to keep that to myself … Not like the first time," via Guardian.
“Thankfully, I got through it. Again. And all is well. Hey, who knows what’s around the corner, but pop music nurtures me.”
However, the 57-year-old singer-songwriter admitted that she wanted to share it with fans but was waiting for “the right time.”
She considered sharing it when she returned to music in 2023 with the release of her hit single Padam Padam.
Kylie shared her thoughts, stating, “I don’t feel obliged to tell the world, and actually, I just couldn’t at the time because I was just a shell of a person.
“I didn’t want to leave the house again at one point. ‘Padam Padam’ opened so many doors for me, but on the inside I knew that cancer wasn’t just a blip in my life."
She added, “And I really just wanted to say what happened so I can let go of it. I’d sit through interviews and every opportunity I thought, ‘Now’s the time,’ but I kept it to myself.”
Kylie also shared that making a docuseries on her life "meant looking back at so many pivotal moments" she lived through.
