Canvas users hit by major outage as company investigates platform and ePortfolio issues

Canvas experienced a widespread outage on Thursday, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing the online learning platform.
According to outage tracking website Downdetector, more than 2,700 users had reported issues by 1:23 PM PT. Most complaints were linked to problems accessing the website.
The platform’s official status page initially stated that staff were “investigating an issue” affecting Student ePortfolios.
Later in the afternoon, the company posted another update confirming broader disruptions across its services.
“Canvas, Canvas Beta and Canvas Test are currently unavailable,” the status page said.
Reports of problems continued to rise throughout the day, with more than 15,000 users eventually flagging issues on Downdetector.
Canvas is widely used by schools, colleges and universities for coursework, assignments, grading and communication between students and teachers.
The cause of the outage was not immediately known, and no timeline for a full restoration of services had been provided at the time of reporting.
