Tony nominations: June Squibb makes history after landing latest Broadway nod
June Squibb beats the age records of Lois Smith and Cicely Tyson
June Squibb at 96 is still killing it. The Broadway legend has made history by becoming the oldest acting nominee at the Tony Awards.
She received a nod for her performance in Marjorie Prime.
“I'm thrilled with what this nomination will do for my career,” she tells PEOPLE in a statement.
By receiving a nod, Squibb has beaten Lois Smith and Cicely Tyson for holding the age record.
But that is not the only good news she received.
Her co-star in Marjorie Prime, Danny Burstein, has also landed his ninth Tony nomination, making him the first actor to receive this many nods.
“Over the moon for Danny as well!" she says. "I share this nomination with everyone who worked so hard to bring Marjorie Prime back to life.”
Burstein, on its end, was overwhelmed by the honour, stating, “I'm ridiculously grateful and honored to be nominated."
"I'm especially thrilled for June Squibb. Marjorie Prime was a beautiful experience, and the entire cast is deserving of every accolade.”
Directed by Anne Kauffman, Marjorie Prime began its run in November 2025 and ended it in February 2026.
