Tina Knowles shares what helped her 'get through' cancer journey
The 'Matriarch: A Memoir' was diagnosed with an early stage of breast cancer back in July 2024
Tina Knowles is sharing important lessons she learned during her breast cancer journey.
Speaking to the audience during a panel discussion at the 2026 L.A. Times Festival of Books, the Matriarch: A Memoir author recommended to get early mammograms, admitting she herself missed two times before getting diagnosed with cancer in July 2024.
Knowles, who is the mom of Beyoncé and Solange, admitted that she was fortunate to receive the diagnosis at an early stage, calling it a "miracle."
"So go and get your mammograms — it is so important to take care of yourself," she emphasized.
Moreover, she pointed out the importance of being surrounded by an inner circle, whether "they're related to you by blood or if they're friends."
She explained, "When you hear the word cancer, it is the most frightening thing that you can ever go through, and you need people around you that are gonna support you and get you through it.
"I had plenty of people that helped me get through it, but some people are not that fortunate."
Furthermore, adding about the lessons she learned during her health scare, she learned to "slow down" and "stop being so codependent."
Now, Knowles just "really takes care" of herself and "takes time to enjoy" her life and tries "not to be so stressed all the time."
