Apple's next standard iPhone is shaping up to be one of the most performance-focused base models in years, and according to fresh leaks, it may not land until early 2027, breaking from the company's predictable annual release rhythm.

Recent reports indicate that for once, Apple seems to stagger the introduction of its products. The pro version will likely hit the market by the end of 2026, followed by the regular iPhone 18 some months later in early 2027.

This is apparently connected to difficulties along the supply chain and the increasing price of components, especially large memory capacities. Apple seems to be handling the release in stages to control the costs of production and stock.

What to expect from Apple iPhone 18?

Several rumours suggest that the iPhone 18 will come equipped with a massive 12GB of RAM, which is unheard of for a regular model and was previously seen in only Pro variants.

Coming along with this is the A20 processor, which will make use of a 2nm architecture, promising faster computing without any added strain on the device’s battery life.

It’s not only about performance but also about artificial intelligence. Indeed, Apple continues to expand its Apple Intelligence system, and an improved Siri and advanced AI software will need much more computational power than is available today even in the base model iPhones. That’s why the iPhone 18 seems to have all required specifications to balance out the difference between regular and Pro models.

Regarding the design, the changes should be relatively small, including a display of 6.3 inches with an OLED screen, having a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a smaller Dynamic Island size. The selfie camera will probably receive an upgrade, rising up to 24 MP, which is quite significant.

According to reports, Apple has planned to reduce the complexity of the Camera Control button due to manufacturing cost savings. This means that some features have turned out to be unnecessary in recent years.
