Canada issues egg recall over salmonella risk linked to liquid egg products sold
Select lots of Supreme Liquid Whole Eggs and Supreme Liquid Egg Whites are affected due to possible salmonella contamination
An egg recall has been issued in Canada over risk of salmonella in certain liquid egg products sold in Ontario and Quebec.
According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, select lots of Supreme Liquid Whole Eggs and Supreme Liquid Egg Whites are affected due to possible salmonella contamination.
The recall involves ten lots of one kilogram products with best-before dates ranging from 24 March to 7 May.
The agency noted that these products are typically distributed to hotels, restaurants and institutions rather than sold directly to consumers.
Health Canada and the CFIA are advising people not to consume or use the affected items.
“Consumers are being asked by the CFIA not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled products.”
Salmonella can cause serious illness, particularly in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
Officials say the recall is part of ongoing food safety monitoring, and further investigations may be carried out to determine the source of the contamination.
