Iran envoy says negotiations depend on US ending blockade as talks remain on hold
Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, said he expects diplomacy to resume once conditions change
Iran’s United Nations envoy on Tuesday indicated that fresh negotiations with the United States could take place, only if Washington lifts its naval blockade of Iranian ports.
Speaking at UN headquarters in New York, Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, said he expects diplomacy to resume once conditions change.
“As soon as Washington ends the naval blockade, I think the next round of negotiations will be held in Islamabad,” he told reporters, according to Iranian state media IRNA.
The remarks come at a time of continued uncertainty over the future of the conflict, despite a temporary ceasefire extension announced by US President Donald Trump.
While Trump said the truce would remain in place until Iran submits a proposal to end the war permanently, he also made clear that the US blockade would continue.
Pakistan had been expected to host a new round of discussions between the two sides, but progress has stalled amid ongoing tensions and shifting conditions.
