'Michael' biopic sparks early buzz as first reactions are out
First reactions for 'Michael' are out as the film gears up for a theatrical release
The King of Pop is back, in the form of Jaafar Jackson, whose electric performance in the biopic of his uncle, Michael, stunned fans.
As the U.S. premiere of the Lionsgate-much-anticipated film opened in Los Angeles on Monday, attention was on how reactions on social media unfolded after the screening.
Though there is a review embargo, which will be lifted on April 21, before the film hits the cinema on April 24.
Yet the Antonique Smith-directed biopic has received glowing first reactions on the internet.
"Jafaar Jackson is unreal in MICHAEL. I know the voice was assisted, but the demeanour and dance moves and overall presence are really amazing to watch," says Matthew Belloni, the founding partner of Puck News.
Echoing his sentiment, Daniel Howart, journalist for NextBigPicture, says, "Jaafar Jackson is tremendous in MICHAEL, truly making you forget he isn’t the real thing. An off-the-charts performance."
"The rest of the movie is about as generic as you can get. Fans will love the musical performances, but there’s sadly no humanity behind them."
In addition to Jackson, Michael stars Colman Domingo, Nia Long, and Miles Tettler.
