John Brennan probe faces setback with lead prosecutor removal over evidence concerns

A key development has emerged in the investigation into John Brennan, after a lead prosecutor was removed from the case, according to a source cited by The Associated Press.

Maria Medetis Long, who had been closely involved in the probe, is no longer participating after raising concerns about the legal strength of a potential criminal case.

The source said to AP she had expressed doubts to Justice Department officials about whether there was sufficient evidence to pursue charges.

The Justice Department confirmed that Medetis Long is no longer part of the investigation but did not provide details about her departure.

In a statement, it said: “as a matter of routine practice, attorneys are moved around on cases so offices can most effectively allocate resources. It is completely healthy and normal to change members of legal teams.”

The investigation has been examining Brennan’s role in intelligence assessments related to Russian interference in the 2016 US election.

The probe follows a referral from Republican Congressman Jim Jordan, who alleged Brennan gave false testimony, a claim Brennan and his legal team have denied.

The case remains ongoing, with investigators continuing to issue subpoenas and prepare for further interviews.

It is unclear whether charges will be brought or how the prosecutor’s removal may affect the direction of the inquiry.
