Meghan Markle receives honest verdict from expert on Netflix show
Royal expert says Meghan Markle’s Netflix show ‘lacked originality’ despite her charm
Meghan Markle’s Netflix lifestyle show With Love, Meghan received honest criticism from royal expert for lacking originality despite her on-screen charm.
Speaking with The Mirror, royal expert Jennie Bond said the series faced a tough challenge in a crowded market of cooking, crafting and lifestyle programs.
The expert noted that while Meghan was “pleasant as a presenter,” the show didn’t offer anything new beyond her royal connection.
Netflix data shows Meghan’s series struggled to attract viewers, with the second season ranking 1,224th on the platform and the December holiday special slightly higher at 1,022nd.
“I think it just goes to prove that making a successful TV series is not as easy as she might have thought,” said Bond.
She continued, “No doubt people tuned into the first series out of curiosity to see what she had to offer, and I think the show was fine as far as it went.”
“The trouble is that this is a saturated market,” she said. “Cooking, chatting, style tips etc are commonplace on social media, as well as on TV.
“There was nothing original about the show and, although Meghan was perfectly pleasant as a presenter, she didn’t really have anything unique to offer, beyond the fact that she’s married to a prince (who hardly appeared).
“It didn’t help that it wasn’t even filmed in their own home, so viewers couldn’t get a peek behind the scenes of their domestic life.
“I think she’d probably be better going back to her first craft, acting or concentrating on her As Ever brand – which appears to be showing signs of potential success, though the sales figures are not officially published.”
