Ross, Matt Duffer used AI to write finale of 'Stranger Things'?
'Stranger Things' documentary director addresses the wild rumors that the Duffer brothers used ChatGPT to write the series finale
Stranger Things documentary director shut down the claim that the series' creators Ross and Matt Duffer used AI to write the final installment.
When the documentary One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 debuted on Netflix, many fans claimed they saw ChatGPT open on a computer.
While Ross and Matt revealed how they structured their ideas for the final sequel of the hit series, the documentary showed a Google Doc open on their laptops.
Now, director Martina Radwan denied all the speculation and allegations regarding the use of AI.
"I mean, are we even sure they had ChatGPT open?" Martina told THR on Wednesday.
The director further told the outlet that it was "impossible" to use an AI tool to write such a complex show with so many characters and storylines.
"Well, there's a lot of chatter where [social media users] are like, "We don't really know, but we're assuming," said Martina. "But to me it's like, doesn't everybody have it open, to just do quick research?"
"How can you possibly write a storyline with 19 characters and use ChatGPT, I don't even understand," she continued.
Martina added that she "did not witness an unethical use of generative AI in the writers room."
"Again, first of all, nobody has actually proved that it was open," she said.
For those unversed, the One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 documentary was released on Netflix on Monday, January 12.
