Guy Fieri drops health update after accident that left him in a wheelchair
Guy Fieri reveals that the incident unfolded while filming his new series, Flavor Town Food Fight
Guy Fieri is on the mend after a serious on-set accident that sidelined him for weeks and temporarily left him using a wheelchair.
The Food Network star, 57, was discussing his upcoming Super Bowl event, Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate Presented by SpotOn, when he reflected on the injury he sustained late last year.
Fieri revealed that the incident unfolded while filming his new series, Flavor Town Food Fight, during which he fell down a flight of stairs and saw one foot slip forward and the other catch on a threshold. The fall led to a severe quad muscle tear that required surgery in November.
“I’m doing better,” Fieri said, describing the recovery process as both physically and mentally challenging. The injury forced him to drastically slow down for nearly eight weeks, a major adjustment for someone who regularly does CrossFit and hiking. He admitted the lack of mobility gave him a new appreciation for everyday movement and independence.
Doctors have urged him to take his recovery slowly, a piece of advice Fieri says he’s finally taking seriously. Looking back, he described the experience as “the worst thing I’ve been through in the last 20 years.”
The celebrity chef went on to add that he has no intention of pushing himself back to that point again. He did express optimism about being fully mobile by Super Bowl weekend.
During recovery, Fieri also saw his youngest son, Ryder, 20, step up in the kitchen and put years of informal training to use. Ryder will join Fieri’s older son Hunter, 29, and nephew Jules, 26, at the Flavortown Tailgate in Santa Clara next month.
