Simu Liu teases Avengers: Secret Wars, confirms Shang-Chi sequel
Simu Liu talks Marvel future and upcoming projects
Simu Liu says fans will see Shang-Chi again sooner rather than later as Marvel works on its next Avengers films.
The actor confirmed at New York Comic Con that a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is still moving forward, even if details remain limited.
“It is happening,” Liu said, adding that while there is little he can reveal, the project remains part of Marvel’s plans following the success of the 2021 film, which earned more than $432 million worldwide.
In the near term, Liu pointed to his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, set for release in December 2026, and its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for December 2027.
He confirmed he appears in Doomsday and will return for Secret Wars, though he declined to share specifics about Shang-Chi’s role in either film.
Liu also reflected on working within the large ensemble cast of Doomsday, saying the experience led to several meaningful connections. He singled out Channing Tatum, calling him one of his favourite people and praising their time together both on and off set.
The upcoming Avengers film brings together an expansive lineup that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and others.
Liu said collaborating with actors he grew up watching was a highlight of the experience and compared the set to a childhood dream.
Avengers: Doomsday will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo as part of Marvel’s Phase 6, with Secret Wars arriving one year later.
