Tom Cruise shares his thoughts on AI use in filmmaking: 'People want to see real things'

Tom Cruise has expressed his views regarding the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in the film industry.

Speaking at BAFTA’s Life in Pictures session in London on Monday night, the 64-year-old actor acknowledged that the role of AI in filmmaking is becoming increasingly significant but also pointed out that people will always want to see “real things” on screen.

When Tom was asked whether AI would impact the industry, he simply responded, “Here’s the thing: there is nothing like human."

“I have nothing against streaming or anything like that,” the Top Gun star said, adding that watching a movie in cinemas is “a different art form.”

“People want that experience. They’re going to movie theaters,” Tom said. “I always believe in humanity.”

The Mission: Impossible actor added that in the era of AI, creators should "continue the creative process."

For those unversed, Tom is currently busy promoting his forthcoming movie Digger. The long-awaited film is set to hit cinema screens on October 2.

“I’ve never read a movie like this,” the Hollywood star said of his new film. “It’s the most original film and one of the most moving films I’ve ever seen.”
