King Charles reflected on his 1975 trip to the Canadian Arctic as he joked about being “too old” now to dive under the ice.
The monarch made the light hearted remark while emphasizing the urgent need to address climate change and calling on humans to adapt.
Speaking with environmentalist Steve Backshall, the monarch praised the knowledge of indigenous communities in the region and warned about humanity’s interconnectedness with nature.
Charles was asked what stood out most from the trip, he replied, "Well, diving under the ice. Yes, I think I am too old to go back.
"So thank goodness I was younger in those days because I certainly couldn't go now,” the monarch added.
"It was amazing in those days, thank god. It was as it should be. I learnt a great deal from going there."
He further talked about the rising concern over climate change, saying that humans "have to adapt".
"I mean this is what I have been trying to warn about for years,” he added.
Praising the indigenous people in the affected areas, he added, "Their knowledge is absolutely crucial right now.”
“We are totally interconnected with nature [and] I think the problem is trying to reconnect that link."
