Peter Andre calls Australia's social media ban 'great'
Peter Andre praises the Australian government's decision regarding the social media ban
Peter Andre has come forward in full support of the social media ban for teenagers in Australia.
For those unaware, the Australian government has imposed a ban on social media applications such as YouTube, X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Snapchat, and TikTok for children under 16.
On Wednesday, December 10, the ban came into effect with swift actions to deactivate their existing profiles and make sure new accounts are not created.
Authorities stated that this step will help reduce the negative impact of social media's "design features that encourage [young people] to spend more time on screens, while also serving up content that can harm their health and wellbeing".
The 52-year-old British-Australian singer, songwriter, and television personality, who grew up in Australia and has five children, penned his thoughts in his new! magazine column.
He wrote, "Australia has implemented their social media ban for under 16s, and it's great. When people ask me if it's a contradiction that I've had my kids on social media, we have to remember that when social media first started, we were all new to it. We didn't know the pitfalls of it.”
"Now, we're seeing what AI can do; that's why our youngest children are not on it. I fully support the ban. I know that's not what kids under 16 want to hear, but it will do them so much good. I hope the rest of the world catches on. The dangers are so real,” Andre explained.
For those unaware, the All About Us hitmaker shares his two children, 20-year-old Junior and 19-year-old Princess, with ex-wife Katie Price.
Peter Andre's second marriage to Emily Andre gave him three more children: 11-year-old Millie, nine-year-old Theo, and 20-month-old Belle.
